The hustling modern town life of Ponda
has not affected the calm, magnificent and graceful look of the grand mosque.
In passage of time,Safa Masjid has been attracting large number of Muslim
devotees, historians, tourists from domestic as well as foreign countries. The
Arabic word “Safa” means clean, chaste, and pure and this title suits this
superb structure. The mosque was built up with laterite stone. This laterite stone
is sprinkled for number of Mehrab style arch.The word “Mehrab” means the
direction of the Kaba in Mecca and hence the direction that Muslims should face
when praying. One can find imaginable peace that exist around the mosque, the
whisper of the trees and the glistening of the holy water in the tank. This Masjid
is designed in Indo-Islamic style.
Do visit the holy stone water tank
next to the mosque. By the grace of Almighty Allah the water is so miracle, if
one has faith in Allah all types of sickness can be cured, if you drink water
for 40days continuously.
